I'm Frank Licari.
From# next level workouts to freezing my fanny off and getting into the swing of paddle# while getting to the root of wellness.
I'm chasing one of the hottest trends in travel.# It's called sweat jetting.
So, [music] let's plan our wellness vacation as we go on the town# in the Palm Beaches with me, Frank Licari.
[music] This program is brought to you by Discover# .. for more information.
We're kicking things# off in the Nora District, a new neighborhood in West Palm Beach where fitness, food,# and wellness are all coming together.
Our first stop is a workout at Sweat 440# where there's a new class every 10 minutes.
Squeeze that.
Sure.
Lean a little# more forward.
Perfect.
Pull.
Nope, you're good.
Squeeze those shoulder blades.# Sure.
You each have five more reps, all right?
muscles back there?
I feel like they may grow# already in the first 20 minutes of this workout.
What makes Sweat 440 so different?
It's# classes all day long.
It's a 40-minute workout, super efficient.
So, it's four stations# that are 10 minutes long each.
So, if you book the 9:00 a.m., station one starts# at 9:00 a.m., then there's station one at 9:10, 9:20.
So, if you're late and there's room,# you can just book into the next class.
We're going to grab these plates.
Sure.# Oh, these are really heavy.
Yeah, these are These are heavy weight 25s.
They get lighter,# heavier.
We're going to lift our heels up.
Hold steady here.
[music] We're going# to Russian twist.
And then hold center.
Pump those arms out and down.
Why are you# making it look so easy?
Everything you do, you used to eat times throughout your workout.# Four stations, three exercises each.
And you're out.
And you're out.
You got your strength# training, you got your conditioning, [music] you got functional fitness, you get it all# in 40 minutes.
Great job.
Wait.
Come on.
[music] You should change the name of this place,# actually.
You should call it sweat immediately instead of Sweat 440, cuz it did not take me any# any bit of time at all to sweat.
Lift.
[music] Perfect.
Remember to breathe.
Perfect.
Keep# saying that.
You're doing great.
Thank you.
Hypothetically, if you have somebody maybe# shouldn't even be working out cuz he's probably going to hurt himself, do you have somebody that# goes, "It's okay, pick a name, Frank.
You can You can do this."
Yes.
You're led by myself and other# coaches.
We welcome all fitness levels.
Okay.
So, what you see on the screen and the exercises that# we offer, you know, you can push yourself as hard as you want.
We have a huge variety of weights# for all of our lifting exercises, we can work with you on that.
So, we have everyone, you# know, all ages, any injury, you know, you can come in and we can work with and we have people# who are postpartum, people who are pregnant, people who are coming back from an injury or# an illness.
What about just generally out of shape?
Do you have that?
Yeah, that's perfect.# And that's it.
You can drop those weights.
That's it, right?
[laughter] Great job.
This# is great.
Really having a lot of fun.
Yeah, you're doing You're crushing it.
Sure.
I just put# my body to the test, and now it's time to refuel.
In Noora, I'm finding out why [music] Cellar's# Juice Bar is blending more than smoothies, it's bringing flavors together.
How do you come up with# the menu?
Do you and your family sit around and Yeah, how's that work?
It's also hearing# out what the customers want.
Just listening to customers [music] and then pivoting through# the years, and now we kind of figured out what our sweet spot is, which is what you see now.
We# have great [music] coffee program.
We do juices, smoothies, bowls, breakfast, lunch.
I like that.# It's kind of like a an all-day cafe, so to speak.
First of all, tell me about this van.
So,# you imported from Japan?
Yes, sir.
And how do you use this for delivery?
Everything.# For catering.
It's a moving billboard.
We've been open for only 10 years, but and to# be based where we were born and raised Yeah.
and to have the support of the community, it's we# wouldn't be where we are right now without them.
Plain and simple.
If I come in here first# time, never been in Celis, what's the go-to?
For the juice, I'd get the Haterade.
That's# fresh watermelon juice, fresh lemon juice, and strawberry electrolytes.
Like that.
This is# called the chocolate funk.
This is called the chocolate funk with vanilla protein.
Got it.# Yeah, so we pre-measure all of our smoothies, so we get the right amount of So, I just You# just throw that right in there.
and there?
We're going to grab the almond milk, with one# scoop of that.
Cacao.
Raw cacao powder.
Full?
Right in here?
Yep.
Got it in there.
Just one Just# one soaked date.
One whole date.
All right.
Kabam.
How's the funk?
It's fantastic.
You know what# you're doing.
Tell me about the run club.
So, the run club, we started that in 2020.
Uh my younger# brother, Camilo and I, we started uh running in 2019, and we just wanted to do a club.
Uh we# thought it would correlate beautifully with the business, and it would help kind of cross-promote# it.
And now we have over 200 people that meet every Wednesday at the Great Lawn and on the end# of Clematis.
Wow.
Now, family business.
Yes, sir.
Talk to me about working with your bros,# because seem like you're all kind of, you know, balanced, but who's the one that needs to be,# you know, cut down a peg?
Come on.
Next question.
The community and the business is bigger than# ourselves.
We have to We have to stand by that.
You know, when you got your brothers, you# know, in your corner and supporting you, rooting you on, and I'm rooting them on,# it's What What What more could I ask for?
No pressure, but if you want to create a signature# juice that's named You know what I mean?
It's no big deal, but if you want to do that, I just# want you to know I'm offering that.
Okay.
The Palm Beaches is typically known# for outdoor [music] adventures, but now there are even more ways to stay fit# all year round.
I'm hitting the court with a world-class coach to try one of the fastest# growing sports in the [music] nation, paddle.
We want to use not just our hand and our arms,# we want to use our entire body and legs.
All right?
More of a push forward kind of situation# here.
And not bad.
Not bad.
Not bad.
There we go.
Paddle?
Padel?
Paddle?
Paddle?
Really, it's# not padel?
Listen.
Tomato, tomato.
Ready?
Yeah.
Beauty!
Hey, we got a swing.
Nice!
Here we go.# Basic rules.
Just like in tennis, the ball has to bounce inside of the square.
Same concept.# After the serve, these lines mean nothing.
Okay?
In order for the ball to be in, the ball# must bounce before it hits any of the walls.
Hey, we got a natural here.
Let's go.
Almost!
Obviously, it looks like tennis.# It looks like [music] squash.
It looks like pickleball.
There's the mix.
The way that# the game is played is very similar to tennis.
The cool thing that paddle brings [music] is# that Y axis, the the walls.
It gives you a different dimension, and it makes the sport# very interactive.
When we're up at the net and we don't let the ball bounce, it's called the# volley.
Think of your the racket pointing up, just rotate your shoulders and push in front of# you.
Here we go.
Nice.
Woo!
Bringing the heat.
You get hooked.
You get addicted.
It's# It's fun to play.
It's easy enough to play.
Power isn't the focus in this# game.
It's control and awareness.
Yes.
You are allowed to hit off your own wall.# You're allowed to boast off a wall just like you do in squash.
in squash.
So, you can do this.# Oh, okay.
Get it over.
Here we go.
Nice.
Oh, what?
There you go.
That was totally my accident, by# the way.
My My Great point.
Let's do it again.
Yes.
Oh, we got a natural here.
Here at the# Replay Club where we're at, we do work with a membership base.
You don't have to be a member to# come and play.
We're really focusing on building the community here.
We don't just offer paddle,# as well.
We have a full gym, we have a spa, we have a yoga studio, and right across the# street we have seven indoor pickleball courts.
It's awesome.
You got a little sweat in now.# Oh, yeah.
Totally, man.
Well done.
I love it.
Sweat equity is about more than just breaking a# sweat.
It's about experiences that move you.
Next, I'm taking my workout outside to one of the most# beautiful backdrops, the Intracoastal Waterway, with the North Palm Beach Rowing Club.
You started# doing this when you were 60?
60.
Talk to me about how rowing has affected your life.
Wow, it's been# something that's kept me fit.
And it's something I love doing.
I come [music] here willingly four# or five days a week, normally.
Wow.
I've raced internationally as well as nationally.
[music]# Really?
In our age group.
We can row until we drop over.
Yeah, you said 9 to 90, which is great,# cuz I fit right in the middle of that.
[laughter] Let's say I've never done it.
Which I've never# done it.
Is there like a beginner course?
First of all, we are [music] teaching the mechanical rowing# on the land.
You got to keep your arms straight and push the legs first.
Reach out and catch.# Arms, body, and then your seat.
There you go.
It's like one of those motions where, you know,# repetitiveness matters.
Yes.
It's basically [snorts] do this over and over.
Repeat 200# times and call it a race.
Right.
And ready, row.
I have two chapters as a rower, [music] as a# coach.
I'm so happy to help kids to make them like state champions.
Oof, wheels# almost fell off there, guys.
There's muscle memory.
It's like trying to learn# to play the piano and do a workout.
Got you.
Oh, you guys weren't even rowing?
Oh.
This is# like a rocket ship.
I heard they really You're helping youth all the time.
Is# that a big part of the mission here?
It's a very big part and really does change# lives.
There's no doubt about it.
Sure.
It's a very high accession rate [music] for kids# who row getting into good colleges.
We do it with the kids, primarily for kids, [music] but we have# a masters adult program as well.
Ready, all.
Row.
Even my seat is tired of me.
Look, if you watch it from afar, I mean, what# are we doing here?
Josh, what are we doing?
We're just rowing, right?
But there's a there's a# method to this madness.
Do you guys want to race?
1 minute right now.
Hey, Daddy.
First race.
All right.# First race.
All right.
Ready all?
Row.
After pushing my body to the limit, it's# time to find a little balance.
Next, I'm stepping on the mat at Hamsa Power Yoga,# where movement, mindfulness, and community come together.
Begin this moment of transition# from the outside world, all the distractions, to the inner world.
The way that we can# access that part inside of us is by bringing awareness back.
[music] Draw your chin here, right# shoulder.
And then lift your chin like a rainbow.
Draw your chin towards your front shoulder.# We had both been teachers for a long time, and we both loved teaching.
We loved sharing the# practice in that way.
Really, we had a friend who believed in us, [music] and it took a few weeks# for us to be like, we can do this.
You know, we can do this.
We are strong.
We are powerful.
We# love people.
We love community.
We love uplifting others really because like that's what friends# do, and yoga for us is all about community and uplifting everyone and making everyone feel safe.# Inhale, the tailbone lifts, the belly drops, the heart draws forward.
Take your right hand# to your right thigh.
Reach your left arm up.
You can take your index to your thumb of your left# hand.
Power yoga.
Yes.
What's power yoga?
It's a take on Vinyasa yoga, which is breath of movement.# It's more of like a constant moving type practice.
Power adds like lunges and push-ups and just# some things that get your athletic heart rate up a little bit.
More of a workout.
that to# it, keeping the yoga element.
Press your head into the palm of your hand.
Open up through the# shoulder.
Inhale.
And then three crunches.
Right elbow to left elbow, draw it in.
Pull the right# hip back.
Power Vinyasa does give this freedom for self-expression.
And now in a child's# pose, take a few breaths.
My child is tired.
Reach the right arm up and bring your right hand# to the inside of your left foot.
Lift your right knee.
Lengthen the heart forward.
Why [music] am# I sweating so much?
You guys do retreats?
Yeah, we do a yearly retreat in the spring.# We've been to Costa Rica, Mexico, Canouan.
are real retreats.
It's a reminder that yoga is# so much more than the yoga postures.
Mhm.
It's hard to make friends as adults.
[music] Yeah.
So,# finding people that share a passion for something, people form really, really strong friendships and# bonds.
Lift up to cobra.
Everybody kind of knows each other.
Absolutely.
Because there are people# who come in here who have never felt safe or seen in another maybe fitness or wellness space.# I want them to walk in and feel a big exhale.
They know me and they know what I need.
That's# what I want.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
come.
There are times the road to wellness# leads you someplace [music] unexpected.
I'm here at Gratitude Garden Farm, an oasis# in western Palm Beach County, where they've turned a story of healing into a place of# connection.
With a name like Gratitude Farms, I'm going to say that there's a amazing story# behind this place.
You are 100% correct with that.
I was in corporate America working uh got very,# very ill.
Uh had a life-threatening uh illness.
I realized something was missing and then I made# a decision to completely reverse my life around by detoxification, by growing my own food.
I started# gardening for my own personal use, for me and my wife, so to heal ourselves, right?
[music] And# uh I started creating raised beds in my backyard.
And it's just been uh 14-year journey between me# and my wife um [music] building this farm out.
You know, I was spared and that's another reason# why, you know, we called the farm Gratitude Garden.
We were very grateful for another# [music] chance.
And then in the last 3 years, we've opened up what our true passion was, which# was the retreat center, which enables people to learn these these little things that we've learned# over the last 14.
[music] So, it's not just Yeah.
what we can do.
Other people that have talents# can come in here and have a beautiful space to be able to teach what their knowledge.
I will give# a gardening class on my wife will give a botanical medicine class, and then my chef will give a# cooking class on how to cook mushrooms.
So, people know they're on the farm, they feel it, and they# they get to incorporate that in their retreat.
We do farm-to-table dinners, and people get to# experience what it's like to eat food that has been picked an hour or 2 hours ago.
Amazing.# [music] Jamaican strawberry tree right here, sugarcane.
Try that.
It's a It tastes like# uh uh garlic and onions.
Taste that.
Wow.
So, that's called society garlic.
We're growing like# different varieties of kale, different varieties of like peppers and lettuces and everything# you can imagine, really.
Tomatoes, but heirloom variety.
We grow like [music] 50 different# varieties of vegetables during the season.
This is a blue oyster and a golden oyster.
So,# these are like gold They're called gourmet blues, and these are lighter, fluffier golden# oyster.
What are they growing out of?
So, these are blocks that we make out of oak# wood and organic soil holes.
It's about a about a month 6-week period# from beginning to end.
Wow.
Wow.
So, this is one of our domes.
We have nine# of these domes, and we They're perfect for two people.
The design of this was what?
built the# entire place, and my wife designed the inside.
You built every one of these?
Yes.
But, I mean,# I have I had help.
I didn't do it by myself.
But, it.
You can be grateful, but but you're# also giving.
[music] That's what part of what makes me happy is even if I'm not running the# retreat, I see the people from day one and then the day they leave and I see the transformation.# [music] And for me, that brings me so much joy.
From the farm to the table, our journey# continues.
I'm at Aioli where I'm about to get my hands dirty and figure out# why sourdough is having such a moment.
These are sourdough bowls that we have.
We'll get# some baskets.
When did sourdough become the thing?
Well, sourdough was always a thing.# Forever and that's what we ate as humans and now it's [music] back because people# are demanding for better quality bread, better quality food.
The lactobacillus bacteria# that is sourdough.
Say it again.
Lactobacillus.
That's the bacteria that sourdough actually# is.
It [music] breaks down wheat for you.
So, when your body eats it, it's pre-digested and it's# easier on your stomach versus commercial yeast.
Pick it up.
Picking it up here.
Okay.# Flip it over.
Yep.
Flip it over.
And then we're going to go 10 and two.
10 and# two.
Make that triangle.
Perfect.
Yep.
Can I do this at home?
Can I Is it doable?
yeah.# And we do classes, too.
And I encourage that for people to understand how to make sourdough.
Like# to make it in your home, it's the most satisfying, gratifying thing you could ever do is make# something like that and feed your family with it.
Fold it into each other.
Yep.
Yep.
Just# like that.
You got the batard shape.
Yep.
Tuck.
Tuck.
Yep.
Like that.
Seam is# going to go on the bottom.
Yep.
[music] Our sourdough is a minimum of 72 hours.
So, we# do 72 to 96-hour ferment.
So, we do it the slow, old way.
The longer you can let it go,# the more flavor it's going to have.
Okay, so that's the key.
Okay.
We take the the mother,# the starter.
Yeah.
What gives life to the bread.
Yeah.
We feed it.
We let it grow.
Then we make# dough.
We let that rise.
And then we take it and shape it.
We put it in these baskets and then# we put it in our walk-in cooler and let it sit for 24 to 48 hours after it's in the baskets.
All# your bread is baked in here for your restaurant?
So, this is our bread department over here.
Yeah,# this is where we bake the bread, and all we do is bake bread over here for a week.
Now, that's# that's rare.
There there restaurants don't have bread departments.
This is like a rare thing.
is# like when I fell down the sourdough rabbit hole, and they're like, "Okay, we need more room just to# make sourdough."
And it still to this day blows my mind cuz it's water, flour, Isn't it crazy?
That's# it.
That's all it is.
And then with our hands, we're going to kind of pull it towards us.
How# am I doing?
You're you're rolling it a little bit.
Okay, yeah.
So, you're rolling it.
Yes.
You# want it to stay and pull.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I got you.
Yes.
Look at my bâtard.
Huh?
Yeah,# look at that.
That's a bâtard.
That's perfect.
that.
That's perfect.
All right.
Shifts start at# 3:00 a.m.
You're coming in tomorrow?
I'm about to experience two extremes, both designed to help me# on my wellness journey.
I'm at Sweat [music] Houz in Palm Beach Gardens, where hot and cold therapy# combine to create a luxurious recovery experience.
I think wellness is becoming more and more and# more of a focus.
When you think about like cold plunges, infrared saunas, vitamin C showers, and# then our red light therapy, a lot of people are now pushing themselves physically, and they're# looking for that recovery aspect cuz it's part of the of the the formula for success.
And# then we get the others, they come here for their 1 hour to kind of reset, recover.
So, that# whole relaxation part is crucial.
I love that.
Once you do a session, you're# going to feel the benefit.
At Sweat Houz, you get a private luxury suite for# a full hour.
That hour is fully equipped with an infrared sauna, a vitamin C shower, and a cold# plunge, and you have a full entertainment system, so you can like unplug, relax, listen to# music, and while I'm doing it.
Yeah.
right.
So, we're going to start you out with the infrared# sauna.
My recommendation?
Just switch off, disconnect.
Take 35 minutes to be by yourself# with yourself, right?
Low and slow for a good 35 minutes.
Great.
Just disconnect, unwind, relax.# Oh, wow.
Yeah, it is hot.
It is hot in here.
It's low and slow, so it's comfortable.
It's like 140# to 175, and you pick where you're at.
The muscles relax, it's incredible.
Your cortisol levels drop,# and they're measurable.
See, I didn't know that.
That's That's okay.
So, like getting hormonal# therapy is too.
Wow.
All right, guys.
Time to rinse off.
Then you do a vitamin C shower.
Like a# a mini facial for the whole body.
You can like hit the toe.
[music] And then we come to this bad boy.# Yes, sir.
Just relax, focus on your breath, and uh it's kind of like meditating.
You're going to# You're going to have an out-of-body experience.
I'm already I'm already thinking about it.
I'm# already having an out-of-body experience.
How cold is cold plunge?
That's a very good question,# right?
Is it going to shock the body?
Yes, and that's the point.
Okay.
Right?
So, when you# go into a cold plunge, you're going to reset your nervous system.
All right.
It takes a little# getting used to.
It is shocking.
This is the moment of truth.
But after you experience it, the# benefits that you get from it, from two, three, four minutes in the cold, Yeah.
the benefits# [music] aren't the same.
Oh, boy.
Oh, boy.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh my god.
Just every time you breathe out, go lower until you can just# relax into that space.
Okay.
[laughter] He's right, though.
Uh after about 30# seconds, your life flashes before your eyes.
The The sauna, fantastic.
Shower, easy.
Cold plunge,# completely different story.
I'm frozen solid.
The wellness conversation is definitely growing.# And this November, some of the biggest names in fitness, health, and longevity will converge# upon the Palm Beaches at the Eudaimonia Summit.
This multi-day experience will bring# together wellness experts, innovators, and people just looking to learn more about# movement, nutrition, recovery, and performance.
Sometimes a wellness journey is measured# one step at a time.
Athletes from all over the world head [music] to the Palm Beaches every# year for the US Polo ASSN Palm Beaches Marathon.
What makes this one so special?
Obviously the# the the the Palm Beaches scenery.
First of all, what makes it special is this, right?
I mean,# look at there, a fantastic view.
It's a It's one of the most iconic views in the world.
The# route goes up the Intracoastal and then down the Intracoastal.
And you know, thanks to our# great [music] partnership with US Polo ASSN, it's all about wellness.
It's about being# outside.
Here's our start and finish line right here.
We've got our our expo and our parties and# our DJs and our trophy ceremony right down here in the middle of West Palm Beach, Florida,# which is fantastic.
[music] Ted, you've been running marathons for years.
Yes?
You're getting# people that run and their arms are everywhere.
Is there a technique?
Are we Are we talking# Are we I want you to notice Are we talking balls of the feet?
Definitely want to do a# rotation through through the foot.
Yeah, we We want to utilize the energy that# we have, not pushing down onto the pavement.
Heel-to-toe rotation through rotation# through your stride progression.
Is the energy up?
Are we Are we running up?
Are we running forward?# So, we're kind of we're bringing the head forward.
Our race in '16 has continued to grow# tremendously.
We were up close to 6,000 runners last year.
What?
Really?
We are# a wonderful, great, [music] middle-size race with one of the greatest 5Ks, 10Ks,# half marathons, corporate [music] relays, and of course the main marathon itself.
I've# never run a marathon, okay?
I find it it's like a If you're going to suffer through a marathon, you# might as well do it in this weather, right?
we forget about the charitable aspect.
You know,# each runner has an opportunity to raise money for a list of charities that participate with us.# How often are we running now to get ready for a full-on marathon?
Everybody's different.
Okay.
But# uh for me, I'm usually running 5 to 6 days a week.
And uh usually right before [music] taper# time, which is 2 weeks before the marathon, you taper down.
Okay.
So you're fresh# on You're fresh.
Yeah, exactly.
Uh usually around 60 miles a week.
60 miles a week?# Yeah.
I'm not quite sure I drive 60 miles a week.
When you run with other people, it [music] helps# pull you along.
Palm Beach Road Runners has these these pace runners.
So if you want to run a 3-hour# marathon or a 4-hour marathon, everyone's a winner when you're running.
It doesn't matter if you# cross the line first or [music] last.
If you finish a marathon, talking about a commitment.# We almost want to collide like we're [music] ice skating across.
Of course.
So knees bent, nice,# okay.
Yeah, arms pumped in.
Arms are pumping.
Whether it's sweating it out, cooling down, rowing# on the water, or getting your flow on, there are countless ways to move, recharge, and connect# [music] in the Palm Beaches.
We hope you'll get out and enjoy everything the Palm Beaches has to# offer.
Join us the next time as we go on the town in the Palm Beaches with me, Frank Licari.
This# is the way I would run.
Dressed out.
There we go.
Yeah, I I don't even care about speed, just# so I look good.
Yeah, you're a natural, right?
Thank you for watching.
I'm going to collapse# as soon as I get out of this uh this tub.
